Gansu has complex terrain with a large number of highway slope protection and drainage projects. Traditional slope construction often relies on manual formwork, segmented pouring, and repeated finishing, resulting in low efficiency, uneven surfaces, large dimensional errors, and visible joints. For long-distance highway slope projects with tight schedules, contractors need a medium-sized slipform paver that can deliver continuous paving, adapt to complex job sites, and ensure high-quality concrete forming.
For this project in Gansu, China, the customer purchased one SMC-5500 slipform paver for highway concrete slope protection construction. Since the project involved long paving sections, varying slope profiles, and narrow job sites, the customer required a machine with strong maneuverability, flexible steering, and reliable continuous paving performance.
Based on the project requirements, we recommended the SMC-5500 slipform paver equipped with a customized mold for highway slope protection. The machine uses a three-track full hydraulic drive system, making it suitable for uneven terrain and narrow construction areas. It supports multiple steering modes, including front steering, crab steering, and spot steering, which improves maneuverability on curved slopes and confined road sections.
The SMC-5500 offers a maximum paving height of 1800 mm, making it suitable for various slope protection profiles. It comes standard with 8 vibration circuits and a vibration frequency of up to 167 Hz, ensuring better concrete compaction and surface quality. Powered by a 118 kW engine, the machine can reach a paving speed of up to 8 m/min, enabling stable and continuous construction while significantly reducing project duration.
After the machine was put into operation, the customer reported that the SMC-5500 performed reliably in highway slope protection construction. It could complete concrete feeding, vibration, and forming in one pass, reducing labor for manual finishing and formwork installation. Compared with traditional construction methods, the project achieved higher efficiency, smoother concrete surfaces, straighter lines, and lower maintenance costs.
The SMC-5500 slipform paver is an ideal solution for highway slope protection, drainage channels, shoulders, and retaining wall projects. With its full hydraulic drive, flexible steering modes, mold adaptability, and efficient vibration system, it helps contractors improve paving quality, shorten construction time, and reduce labor costs.
